Tibetan Community Hall Project

It is envisioned that some time down the track the Tibetan Community will have a Hall of its own which could be used as a class room for Tibetan kids to learn Tibetan language and culture; accommodate and facilitate important events in the Tibetan and Australian calendars; and will also have a library. The Hall will assist Tibetans to be able to fully access all aspects of cultural and religious instruction which impacts on daily living. It will provide a central meeting space which will allow the community to come together for all initiatives and events.

Tibetan Learning Centre

During the visit of Tibet’s Spiritual leader, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, to Australia and New Zealand in 2002, His Holiness gave a private audience to the members of the Tibetan Community of NSW, on the morning of 26 May 2002. During the audience His Holiness stressed the need for the preservation and promotion of Tibetan culture. His Holiness specifically advised the importance of teaching Tibetan language to Tibetan children. As a result, the Tibetan Community of Australia established, that same year, a Tibetan Language School (Tibetan Learning Centre). The Tibetan Community would like to thank our Cultural Officer, Dorjee Dadul, for his sincere efforts in this area over a long time.

The importance of learning Tibetan cultural is to develop better human beings. The Tibetan Learning Centre continues therefore, to effectively facilitate the learning of Tibetan culture, with weekly Saturday classes for children. Parents, children and teachers all actively participate with about 30 children across three classes, 7 teachers and a Cultural Officer.

The TCA would like to thank Warringah Council and PittWater Council and the Community Development Grants Program for their financial support.
